Drop-off/Pick-up

SUPERVISION

Students and parents/visitors are welcome to enter the building at 8:15 A.M. There is no supervision prior to this time. Direct supervision for students begins at 8:15 A.M. Please do not have children arrive prior to this time. Supervision concludes at dismissal, which is 3:05 P.M.  Students are expected to be picked up or gone from campus by this time unless they are participating in a school sponsored after-school activity. Staff is assigned to supervise “parent pick-up” students until 3:15 P.M. at the north entrance. If you encounter an emergency, please call the office to advise them of your late arrival. If students want to play at school after hours, they must first go home and report to parents or child care providers. They may return to the playground after 4:00 P.M., but no supervision will be provided.

MORNING ARRIVAL

Parents whose children do not take the bus should plan to have them arrive between 8:15 and 8:30 A.M. Breakfast is served from 8:15 to 8:30 A.M.

Crossing guards are on duty from 8:15 to 8:30 A.M. at the intersection of Kinnaman Road and 193rd Avenue, and across from Westword Avenue in front of the school. Please make sure that your child is supervised when crossing. Children whose parents allow them to ride bikes to school should be instructed on the safest route to school and on bike safety rules. The lack of sidewalks on certain streets in the Kinnaman area can make bike riding dangerous. Parents are responsible for ensuring that bike riders know and follow bike safety rules. Oregon law requires bike riders to wear helmets.

A small percentage of Kinnaman children live within walking distance of the school (less than one mile). Parents are responsible for teaching their children to follow a safe route to and from school and for instructing their children on safe walking rules.

MORNING CAR DROP OFF

For the safety of all children, we ask that car passengers be dropped off at the doors at the north end of the building. Students may NOT be dropped off at our main entrance before 8:30. The main entrance is used only for buses prior to this time. Please do not allow your child to walk or run through the parking lot. Please see the section below for traffic patterns.

AFTERNOON CAR PICK UP

School dismissal time is 3:05 P.M. Bus riders will walk to their designated bus with their teachers. Children who are picked up by parents stay with a duty teacher at the parent pick up location at the doors of the north end of the building until 3:15.  A crossing guard will assist walkers and bike riders and those who must cross either Kinnaman or 193rd Avenue prior to buses leaving the main parking lot.

TRAFFIC FLOW PATTERN

Students arriving by bus will continue to disembark at the front door, but other vehicles dropping students will be asked to use the north parking lot and drop students at the double doors between 8:15 and 8:30. These doors will be locked promptly at 8:30 A.M. Students arriving after the morning bell will need to enter the front door and report to the office for a late slip. Please read these guidelines carefully and share them with anyone who may be dropping off or picking up your child.

DISMISSAL PLAN

Parents are responsible for letting their child's teacher know their child's dismissal plan and must provide a written note or call the office (503) 356-2420 if there are changes to that plan.
